Staying in Control
Healthy gambling habits include:
- setting a fixed spending limit before playing;
- keeping track of time spent gambling;
- avoiding gambling with borrowed money;
- not chasing losses;
- avoiding gambling while under the influence of alcohol or drugs;
- taking regular breaks;
- keeping gambling separate from money needed for everyday expenses.
A change in behaviour can be a sign that gambling is becoming harmful. Common signs include spending more than planned, increasing stakes to recover losses, hiding gambling from family or friends, borrowing money to gamble, or allowing gambling to affect work, relationships or daily responsibilities.
